Planning a trip to Pittsburgh? Pittsburgh’s not quite as flashy as it’s big sister, Philadelphia, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in beauty and brains. The ‘Burgh is a bustling city full of arts, architecture and adventure. Whatever you could want, Pittsburgh’s probably already thought of it. Free Wi-Fi downtown? Done. Free travel on the trains between city center stations? Check. More than a dozen art, history, and science museums? Right in the city center. Cheeseburgers with french fries in them? You betcha.

Sitting at the crossing of three rivers and filled with hills and trails, Pittsburgh is a great place to be if you’re looking for an outdoor adventure. Try a day hike around Mount Washington or bike the 150-mile GAP trail all the way to Washington D.C.! (Well, it’s one way to save money on travel costs!) A quick drive outside of the city will bring you to all the best river tubing spots. Try Clarion River for a gentle ride or head to Coal Tubin’ in Johnstown for a white-water adventure. Or head to the Meadow Run Natural Waterslides to cruise down the river slip-n-slide style. Honestly, if you’re not already buying your tickets to Pittsburgh, what are you waiting for? Tips for Things To Do in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Airport: A trip to Pittsburgh is super easy with the Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). Its high rate of on-time flights and dozens of restaurants and shops consistently rank PIT as one the best airports in the US. Once you’re there, connect with downtown Pittsburgh via the 28X bus, which comes straight to the airport every half hour. (Meet it outside at the baggage claim by door 6. Tickets are $2.50.) Additionally, many hotels in Pittsburgh also offer free shuttle services between their hotel and the airport. (Pro tip: Get a ConnectCard--a plastic card that allows you to store fares for public transit around the city. You’ll get a discount on each ride, plus other benefits, like free rides on Pittsburgh’s bikeshare system and discounts at local stores and restaurants!)

Top Airlines Flying to Pittsburgh: The Pittsburgh airport is a major hub for American Airlines and our discount student fares mean that you can spend less on flights and more on Pitts-burgers (especially the famous ones at Primanti Bros, with fries *inside* the burger!). We also have partnerships with United, Air Canada, and others, so you won’t have to choose between cheap flights to Pittsburgh and the convenience of flying your favorite airline.

Pittsburgh Hotels: Pittsburgh has plenty of outdoor adventures, but we’re guessing you might want somewhere indoors to crash for the night. Book a hotel in Pittsburgh with us and save with our members-only discounts. The Red Roof Plus is perfect for budget travelers and is also conveniently located super close to the airport. Won’t have a car? Pittsburgh’s train system will come in clutch, but you can make your life easier by staying in a hotel right in downtown. The Hampton Inn and Suites or the Hotel Indigo are both good options.

Places to Visit in Pittsburgh: Looking for things to do in Pittsburgh? You won’t have to look very hard! Catch a Pittsburgh Pirates game at PNC Park. Take a cable car up the Duquesne Incline and soak in the views of the rivers and skyline of downtown Pittsburgh from Emerald View Park and Mount Washington. Spend an afternoon getting cultured in the Carnegie museums of art, science or natural history. Thankfully, Pittsburgh isn’t skimping on food either! Taste the “greatest cake in America” at Prantl’s Bakery, or sample some of Pittsburgh’s famous pierogies (polish dumplings harking back to Pittsburgh’s Polish heritage) served all around downtown. Need late-night provisions? Check out Howl at the Moon, one of the best live music bars in Pittsburgh, or hit up the karaoke or roller disco nights at Belvedere’s Ultra-Dive. And, if you’re in town on a Tuesday, head on over to Harris Grill for bacon night: free bacon at the bar, along with a full menu of other food and drinks. (Wait, free bacon? BRB while we move to Pittsburgh.)
