Student flights from the USA to Australia
You probably don’t need any convincing to add Australia to your bucket list. If you’re dreaming of a trip to the Land Down Under, you can make it possible with our cheap flights to Australia. Whether you’re hoping to head to Oz for the endless beach days or for exploring the Blue Mountains and other national parks or just want to catch a sunset over the Sydney Harbour, there’s no shortage of beautiful places to see and explore.
What are the main Australia airport hubs?
Australia may be a big country, but many of the main airport hubs are located on the southwestern coast.
Sydney (SYD): The Sydney airport is where you’ll likely fly into if you’re visiting anywhere in New South Wales. The airport is located pretty close to the city, with the Airport Link train connecting both terminals to Central Station, St. James Station, the ferries to the Sydney Harbor and more in just 15-20 minutes.
Melbourne (MEL): The Melbourne Airport, also known as the Tullamarine Airport, is the main international airport for Melbourne and surrounding areas. Getting to the city from the airport takes about 25-35 minutes by Uber/taxi, or you can opt for the cheaper (but slightly longer) ride on one of the Melbourne Airport shuttle buses.
Brisbane (BNE): The Brisbane Airport is the main international airport for Brisbane as well as the entire Southern Queensland area. Once you arrive, a quick train ride will take you from the airport right into the city in about 20 minutes—just look for the signs for the Airtrain stations. The airport also has train options for heading out to the Gold Coast or connecting with trains heading across Queensland.

Flights from the East Coast will likely have a layover in Los Angeles or San Francisco before continuing on.
There’s plenty of airlines to fly as well, from American Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Australia, Air New Zealand, Qantas and more!
When is the cheapest time to book a flight from the USA to Australia?
Prices based on bookings made 90-120 days prior to departure.
Australia universities and campuses
Australia is a popular study abroad destination, and thankfully, there’s plenty of great universities and programs for you to study abroad Down Under. The University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney and UNSW Sydney are some of the top universities in Australia. Of course, there are dozens of others, so check with your home university first to see if there are study abroad programs available to you. Australian lifestyle and culture
Many American students love the laid-back and relaxed Aussie culture and find the work-life balance in Australia more sustainable than what they’re used to in the US. That’s not to say Aussies aren’t a hard-working bunch! But they also know how to enjoy a good beach day or weekend trip, so you can always be ready for a good time in Oz!
Exploring Australia on a student budget

Another cheap way to get around if you’re exploring more than one area is by the Greyhound buses—they may not be super glamorous, but they are a great budget option.
