Cheap Spring Break Ideas

  1. Iceland

Iceland for a Spring Break trip might seem like a curveball, but it’s insanely worth it. In March, Iceland is still locked in the final weeks of winter, but that just makes the incredible craggy waterfalls more breathtaking, and makes the geothermally heated pools even more rewarding. Flights to Iceland are affordable, and day trips like snowmobiling or ice cave tours can fit into any student traveller's budget. Reykjavik is an incredible little city, too.

  2. US Road Trip

Gas isn’t savagely expensive right now, so why not do your Spring Break vacation on your own terms? Depending on what part of the country you’re in, the US has about a million sights to see. Tour alongside a band like the Deadheads of the past, or see sights like Niagra Falls and the Grand Canyon. If you love the city, you can see museums (that often have student discounts) or catch a ball game at a park you’ve never been to. We have our US Travel Guide to help plan the ultimate road trip.

  3. Costa Rica

Costa Rica has it all; beaches, jungles, sun, adventure, you name it and Costa Rica can give it to you. With flights to Costa Rica being pretty cheap right now, it’s hard to find a reason not to go. StudentUniverse even has a Costa Rica tour that will get you hiking, waterfall rappelling, whitewater rafting and zip lining with a local guide who knows all about how awesome Costa Rica is. On top of all that, there’s surfing to do and hidden lagoons to explore.

  4. Camino de Santiago

This long hike through northern Spain used to be a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, where medieval nobles and peasants alike would journey. Now, it’s an incredible spring break idea to see an offbeat side of Spain. For the student adventurer, the hostels that line the path and the cheap “pilgrim dinners” they serve along the way make it easy on the wallet. Check out our Spain Travel Guide to see all this great country has to offer.

  5. Vietnam & Laos

If you really want to break out of the old routine of college life, quizzes, and dining halls, than maybe a trip to Vietnam and Laos will be right up your alley. Seeing the beauty of such a different place can shape your perspective on life, and come back to school with a clearer picture of the world. Our StudentUniverse tour Vietnam & Laos on a Shoestring can show you all the sights of these great cultures, while keeping you under a budget.
