The awardees were selected from all airlines available on StudentUniverse.com through a survey conducted of StudentUniverse customers. Though the global COVID-19 pandemic upended the travel industry and put a damper on many travel plans, students commended these airlines in particular for their overall experience, value and service, as well as professional and trustworthy service, support and safety measures throughout the pandemic.

Best Overall Airline Students & Youth: American Airlines
American Airlines has been a leading airline in the US for over 90 years. Now operating flights to more than 350 destinations, American Airlines has established itself as one of the leading travel brands. Voted as Best Overall Airline by students and youth, students ranked American Airlines as the best student airline for their value, service, reliability and overall experience. One student commented, “American Airlines has provided phenomenal support as COVID has affected at least 3 of my trips in 2020. Every single time on the phone I have received informed customer service people who are helpful and professional, while still being personable.” Another student described American Airlines as the “best balance between affordability and comfort.”
Best Overall Airline Students & Youth Runner-up: Delta Air Lines
With over 200 million travelers per year, Delta Air Lines consistently offers a world-class experience across a global network. As the runner-up for Best Overall Airline for Students & Youth, students commended Delta for great service and overall experience. One student said, “they have the best customer service, the best comfortability, and the best snacks :).”
Best Airline International Travel: Delta Air Lines
Delta Air Lines was also voted the number one airline for international travel by students and youth. With over 300 destinations in 50 different countries and a number of international airline partners in their SkyTeam alliance, Delta is a global leader that continues to offer more options and trustworthy service for students worldwide. “I have not had such good service in years on any other airline: the treatment of passengers, the genuine kindness and caring, condition of the plane, services provided, efficient and good ground staff and baggage handling, all-around a smooth and caring organization,” one student commented.

From value and service to easy travel and excellent options provided, students were quick to deliver high praise for American Airlines across the board: “Ever since I started traveling, I found myself loving the experiences at this airline. Very professional and great quality,” one student wrote. An expansive route network and cheap prices were other qualities that students frequently praised American for. “The flights have relatively cheap prices and all they have ALL the destinations I need, even the small ones.”
Students were also quick to praise American for exceptional service and support, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I had a great experience with American Airlines while flying from Spain back to the US during COVID,” one student wrote. “All the staff were very friendly and cheerful, they made the stressful experience an overall good one!”
