Eligibility, Joining, and Website Information

  • Am I eligible to purchase a ticket?

Yes! StudentUniverse has products available to anyone and everyone over the age of 15 (you have to be that old to agree to the terms of use).

We do allow our suppliers (airlines, hotels, tour operators, etc.) to set specific requirements for their products, so based on your account type or age you may not be eligible for everything. To see if you are eligible, log in (or join) and we will inform you prior to you entering your credit card info if there are issues with eligibility requirements.

  • I’m already a Prime Student member, do I have to create a new account for StudentUniverse?

Nope, when you click the link on our Amazon offer page, you will be asked to sign in with your Prime Student account. Once that happens, we will send you back here and automatically create a StudentUniverse account for you. All you have to do is search, save and book your next trip!

  • Can I sign up for Prime Student through StudentUniverse?

You'll need to head over to our offer page on Amazon where you can log in or sign up for a 6-month trial. We’ll automatically connect your StudentUniverse account with your Prime Student account if you're using the same email address. If you don’t have a StudentUniverse account, we'll create one for you.

  • I’m already a StudentUniverse member, how do I use my Prime Student account to get more discounts?

Just head over to our offer page on Amazon where you can log in or sign up for a 6-month trial to Prime Student. Then it’s booking as usual! You’ll still have access to all the great discounts and promo codes you’re used to seeing, along with even more discounts with Prime Student.

  • Can I purchase a ticket if I am a high school student?

Yes! (As long as you're 16 years old.)

When going through the sign up form on StudentUniverse deselect 'Student' as we do not have high schools as an option for Students.

Some suppliers have eligibility requirements that require you to be a college student. If that is the case, you will be notified of that requirement prior to entering your credit card info.

  • Do I need an ISIC/ITIC/IYTC card to purchase a ticket from you?

No! Other student travel companies require you to buy an ISIC/ITIC/IYTC card (for over $25!), but we do not. We do not accept ISIC/ITIC/IYTC cards as proof of student/faculty/youth status, we will work with you and your school to do that at no charge.

  • Have I signed up before?

We understand that you may have forgotten if you've signed up with StudentUniverse in the past (although that does make us a bit sad). When you log in or attempt to sign up, you'll be advised if your email is already tied to a StudentUniverse membership.

If you have forgotten your password, click on the ? next to the password field and follow the standard forgotten password process. If you still are having problems, don't hesitate to contact us.

  • Not sure if you already have an account with us?

As the largest online student travel company in the U.S., StudentUniverse powers multiple student travel websites (including the Travelocity Student Center and one on Orbitz). If you have created a login for the student centers for either of these sites, you can use the same login for StudentUniverse. Your log-ins on other sites, however, will not work on StudentUniverse.

If you try to create an account and you see the message:
    Email in use, please login

Then you already have an account with StudentUniverse using this e-mail. You can login right away. If you have forgotten your password, click on the ? next to the password field and follow the standard forgotten password process or contact us directly.

  • My school is not listed on the sign up form

About 75% of the time we get requests to add schools they are already listed. Try an alternate name or spelling of your school. If that doesn't work, continue reading.

To be listed on StudentUniverse your school needs to be an accredited, degree granting college or university. (sorry, no high schools... yet). If you believe your school qualifies, send us a note with your name and a link to your school's website so we can verify and add your school to our database.

If you are ready to purchase now, please sign up without entering a school (uncheck 'student'). We can update your account later.

  • Why do I need to have my student/faculty status verified?

Simple. Travel suppliers (airlines, hotels, tour operators, etc) are willing to give us deals on the premise that we 'verify' that you are who you say you are. If we allowed anyone to purchase some of these deals, the supplier wouldn't give them to us.

For most users, the verification process is seamless and nothing you need to worry about. If the supplier requires we get additional proof from you, you'll be notified prior to you entering any credit card info.

  • Why do I need to confirm my status again?

Based on agreements we have with our suppliers (airlines, hotels, tour operators, etc), you may be required to provide proof of your current status from time to time. If you need to provide us details on your current status, you will be notified in the purchase path before you enter credit card info.

  • Why am I no longer verified?

Because a person can change schools, take time off, graduate, or just leave a school, we need to re-verify your status from time to time.

StudentUniverse also offers Youth fares in addition to student fares. Since we have more fares available for students, if you are both a youth and a student, please register yourself as a student to get the best fares.

  • What is the default currency?

The default currency depends on the site you are on. If you are on StudentUniverse.com the default display currency will be USD. You can see that in the top right corner, it is listed as $. You can also update the display currency to something that is more familiar to you if you would like.

Depending on the product you are purchasing, the supplier may settle (charge your credit card) in a different currency. If it is anything other than the default currency for the site, we will message that to you accordingly. Some credit card companies and banks will charge a 'Foreign Transaction Fee' for all charges in a different currency. Please check with your credit card company or bank to verify.

  • Are the prices I see on your site in U.S. Dollars?

Yes. All prices for student flights are in U.S. dollars (USD) as are any additional fees for flight changes or cancellation, if applicable. All purchases of student airfare will be charged in USD, but if your issuing bank is outside the U.S., they may convert this to the local currency.

If you are booking a hotel on our site, you will be charged in Euros (or USD if it is marked on the booking page). Hotel prices can be displayed in USD, Canadian Dollars, Australian Dollars, New Zealand Dollars, Euros, or British Pounds.

StudentUniverse is not responsible for any additional fees imposed by your credit card or financial institution for the exchange rate conversion.

  • What do you do to ensure privacy on your site?

We follow industry standards for credit card transactions to make sure your information stays protected. We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption technology and Private Communication Technology (PCT) security standards, which are widely used and respected across the industry. SSL encrypts your name, address, telephone number and credit card information before they are transmitted across the Internet, so you can feel safe about doing business with us.

  • Do you offer group travel discounts?

Yes! If you are traveling in a group of 10 or more, complete the group travel request form and we will follow up with you as quickly as possible.

Groups under 10 can book directly on StudentUniverse.

  • What if I'm part of a study abroad program?

Sign up with the school that would show you as currently enrolled. We confirm your enrollment at time of purchase, not at time of travel. For most students, this is their 'home' school and not the school that you are part of as a Study Abroad student.

  • Do you have package deals?

We have student flights to pretty much anywhere you want to go and we have hostels/budget hotels in most of those places too. You book your student flight and hostel/hotel separately, so it gives you the freedom to choose (and spend) what you want.
