Looking for the perfect student travel destination? While there’s plenty of places you could visit, some places stand out! For one example, Taiwan! Why visit Taiwan? Not only is full of amazing things to do (and delicious things to eat), there’s a lot of reasons why Taiwan is a great place for student travelers.

Next time you and your friends are planning a spring, winter or summer break trip, here’s 6 reasons why you should head to Taiwan.

Safety

You can keep your parents’ nerves at ease when traveling to Taiwan because it is such a safe destination. While it is important to be aware of your surroundings whenever and wherever you travel, Taiwan is a safer destination than most. Crime rates here are extremely low making it a perfect destination for students or first-time international travelers.

People are Friendly

Taiwanese people are incredibly friendly. Think of classic Southern hospitality, but in Asia! People in Taiwan are generally accepting and accommodating to tourists and are almost always willing to help out if you need something. Don’t be afraid to approach someone who is about your age if you need something—they will speak some English and you might even make new friends out of it! Plus, then you’ll have a good reason to come back to Taiwan and visit your new friends.

Plenty of English-speakers

While English is not an official language in Taiwan, it’s widely spoken and well-received. In addition to being able to find people that speak some English, many signs in Taipei and other cities are already translated. This makes it a much easier place to navigate! Of course, you should also try to learn a few basic phrases in Mandarin before you go, too.

No visa needed!

One of the great things about Taiwan is that US travelers do not need a visa to visit. You will be able to experience all Taiwan has to offer without needing to spend hundreds of dollars on a Visa. It also gives you the freedom to leave your itinerary open since you will not have to submit where you will be each day (as it common for other visa applications). Just bring your passport and make sure you have a confirmed return ticket, and you can stay visa-free for up to 90 days!

Public Transportation

It is super easy to get around Taiwan on public transportation! From high-speed trains to buses, subways, and tour buses, there are plenty of ways to get around. The metro system is anything but chaotic. It is clean, air-conditioned, and stops are even announced in English. It is also incredibly cheap making travel from city to city possible for students ballin’ on a budget. The public transportation will definitely help you see more of Taiwan!

A Vibrant Culture

Taiwan has a unique and vibrant culture that definitely needs to be experienced in person. There’s tons of food to try, festivals that are unlike anywhere else in the world (lantern festival, anyone?) and a rich history in Taiwan. You’ll also experience Taiwan’s blend of ancient and modern cultures!
