While many youth from other parts of the world, like the UK, are very familiar with the “gap year travel” concept and work months to save up the funds to travel around the world between high school and college or college and full-time employment, travel unfortunately does not seem to be as high of a priority for many in the US.

In a recent Skift article, our CEO calls out that we have historically failed to promote travel as an important component of a world-class education in the U.S. An alarming 62% of Americans do not even hold a passport, according to the U.S. Department of State.

With this contest, we do something about it.

College seniors from all around the US have entered for the chance to win a three month trip after graduation. Best of all, they make their own itinerary. Whether they want to backpack Europe, do extreme sports in Australia and New Zealand, hike Machu Picchu or walk over the Great Wall of China. Maybe they regretted not studying abroad, have never been abroad, are a travel addict looking to check more locations off of their bucket list, or maybe they want to take the opportunity to see more of the world before committing to a 9-5pm?

The winner of the contest will be required to do the following:

• Blog about their travels along the way and post-trip

• Takeover our Snapchat and Instagram accounts during travels

• Produce video content of travels

• Share upcoming travel plans/events on Flypside

• Review Homestay.com properties the student stays at

• Grant permissions for StudentUniverse to re-post all of their content/social updates

• Interact with media about your travels, if secured by Public Relations team
