If you want a trip that is sure to get your heart racing, Orlando is definitely the place for you with its abundance of world famous and must see theme parks, including Disney World, SeaWorld and Universal Studios. But don't let Orlando's reputation fool you–there is so much more to experience than just theme parks. The wildlife in Orlando is unique and eco-tourism is on the rise, and there is plenty to explore with a multitude of wildlife preserves, nature trails, and airboat tours along tranquil wetlands. Maybe you'll even spot a gator!
And don't forget about the nightlife! There's no better way to appreciate the Orlando views than from the 400 foot high Orlando Eye ferris wheel at night. Orlando should definitely be a city added to anybody's US travel bucket list, whether you're here studying abroad with a need to see Disney World before you head home, or if you live in the US and need a getaway without traveling too far. There is so much to experience in Orlando alone but there are plenty of other Florida sights to see that are only a car ride away.
Tips on flying to Orlando
Now you're wondering where you should begin: Theme parks? Wildlife? Nightlife? But how will you get to Orlando? How will you get to the sites you want to see when you're there? It can be overwhelming, but keeping a few tips in mind will prevent you from going astray.
Orlando Airports: Orlando is home to the third largest airport facility in the US: the Orlando International Airport. The facility is 23 square miles and houses more than 100 stores, restaurants, and other establishments for travelers to check out while waiting for their flight. It even has a hotel! While chances are slim that Orlando International Airport won't be able to meet your needs with its 42 airlines, there is always the smaller and nearby Orlando Sanford International Airport.
Orlando Transportation: With so many places to see and things to do in Orlando, you definitely need a way of getting from point A to point B. Lucky for you, Orlando has more options than just rental cars. Their public transportation system, LYNX, has buses that can get you to and from the Orlando International Airport, the downtown Orlando area, and even Disney World! If you want something a little more unique than that, check out the I-Ride trolley for your International Drive stops!
Things to do in Orlando: No one will forget Disney World or Universal Studios, but there's plenty else to do too! Check out Gatorland so you don't have to go home saying you went to Florida and didn't see a single alligator, or get a bite to eat at Mango's Tropical Cafe while watching the entertaining live music and dancers. There are also plenty of museums like the Orlando Museum of Art and the Orlando science center.
Disney World in Orlando: Did you realize that Disney World is so massive that it can have its own list of things to do there? You have to check out Animal Kingdom and go on a safari! Then there is the famous Tower of Terror–ride if you dare. There are also some great dining options, with high end restaurants and even character dining available. Where else can you eat dinner with Mickey Mouse himself? And make sure you don't miss a parade or fireworks show at Magic Kingdom.
