What are the main Boston airport hubs?

Boston just has one main international airport, the Boston-Logan International Airport. It’s about 5 miles from the city, so it’s super easy to get downtown from the airport. You can take the local subway into the city for free from the airport. Just head outside from any terminal to signs for “Silver Line 1” buses and hop on. The silver line buses will bring you to South Station, where you can hop onto other subway lines. While you’re there, buy a local train and bus ticket (called a CharlieCard) if you’ll be riding the subway a lot.

Of course, Ubers and taxis are always an option as well.

When is the best time to fly to Boston?

The best time to visit Boston is generally between May and October. Summer months (May-early September) are full of good weather and tons of things to do, from cultural events to outdoor farmers markets and activities to nightlife and amazing Fourth of July celebrations. October brings autumn colors to most of New England, blanketing the area in cooler weather, stunning colors and all things pumpkin spice and apple cider.

Tickets are often cheapest in the winter, post-holidays (i.e. late January through March), which makes sense because Boston is typically quite cold during these months. If you don’t mind a little snow, it can be beautiful (and certainly less crowded!) these times of year, just don’t forget your scarves and gloves.

Why do students love visiting Boston?

Boston is a very youthful city, with tons of energy, lots of things to do, and a hopping nightlife. It’s compact enough to explore easily on foot or via the subway system (no need to rent a car!), yet packed with enough to do that you’ll never be bored.

Boston universities and campuses

Boston is home to 50+ colleges and universities, so if you’re thinking of coming here to study, you’ll be in good company! From world-renowned schools like Harvard and MIT to smaller schools, Boston has no shortage of amazing places to study. Northeastern, Emerson and Boston University are also popular places to study. Since there’s so many universities, you’ll also find plenty of options in terms of programs, majors and more.

Boston lifestyle and culture

You may have heard that Bostonians have a reputation for being cold and rude, but that's not really true—while many people may seem to have a gruff exterior, Bostonians are a friendly and loyal bunch if you get to know them. The city, although small, has a lot of energy, especially during the summer. You’ll find plenty of locals at outdoor events, rooftop bars and more during the warmer months. The easiest way to get on Boston’s bad side? Trash talk their sports teams.

Exploring Boston on a student budget

Although Boston can be an expensive city, it’s definitely possible to explore on a student budget. There’s lots of free things to do from walking the Freedom Trail to biking along the Charles River and more. Local cafes and markets offer cheap deals on quick meals. And the compact downtown district means it’s easy to explore with paying heaps for Ubers.
