What are the main Thailand airport hubs?
Bangkok is the main airport hub in Thailand, and the most likely arrival and departure point for your trip. Bangkok is home to two airports Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang International Airport. If you are travelling around Thailand you may also end up flying to Phuket, Krabi, Hat Yai, Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.
Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK): This is Bangkok's newest and biggest airport. Most international flights arrive or depart from BKK. From the airport, the Airport Rail Link train is the easiest way to get into the city, costing just 45 baht ($1.40 USD) and takes about 25 minutes to get from the BKK airport to city center.
Don Mueang International Airport (DMK): Bankok's oldest airport, DMK, handles mostly domestic flights. If you're planning to fly elsewhere in Thailand, especially on a local budget airline, you might fly into or out of DMK. The easiest way to get to DMK is by simply taking a taxi: just allow yourself plenty of time, as Bangkok's traffic can be horrendous! If you're traveling between BKK and DMK, there's a free shuttle bus you can take, bus 554.
Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX): If you want to explore Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is probably the airport you'll be flying into. Thankfully, it's an easy airport to fly into and out of, and is centrally located to the city. Take a bus ($.70), a tuk-tuk ($3.30), or a taxi ($4.90) to get into the city from the Chiang Mai airport.

There are currently no direct flights from the US to Thailand. But there are a number of different connecting flight options for you to choose from.
