What comes to mind when we think of College Spring Break? Typically most people think of sun, sand, booze, and day-long beach parties. That sounds like a pretty enjoyable vacation, but a weeklong break from the stress of exams and papers is a great opportunity to take your travels to the next level. Many students are passing on typical Spring Break trips for far away exotic destinations and experiences with new cultures.They’re replacing destinations like Cabo San Lucas and Panama City Beach with cities like Dubai and Berlin. Don’t get us wrong, beach parties are wicked fun, but pub crawls in London and strolls in Hong Kong’s night markets are once in a lifetime experiences. These “outside-the-box” destinations are becoming more popular among adventurous students with the travel bug, and urge to get much more out of their Spring Break vacation.
Dubai: Visitors of this city have a lot of bragging rights! After all, this city is one of the most luxurious in the world. Futuristic skyscrapers like the Burj Khalifa, ethnic souqs (street markets), the largest mall in the world complete with aquarium, ice rink, and indoor theme parks, and a glamorous nightlife is only a few awesome things about Dubai.
Berlin: Berlin is the party-capital of Germany and one of the most party-centric cities in all of Europe. There are all varieties of nightlife here whether you’re into chic pubs to six story party factories, and the locals will dare you to keep up and get wild till sunrise. Berlin is also great for art, architecture, and culture with over 170 museums. The city is also a green city with beautiful parks, forests, and lakes so you can just relax after a long night of partying.
London: London is the most-visited city in the world, and Spring time is said to be the best time of year to visit because of mild temperatures and blooming parks. London has awesome shopping, whether you want to visit Harrod’s, Top Shop, or the bargain-packed street markets of Portobello.
Hong Kong: Hong Kong is an eclectic mix of East meets West. Stimulate your taste buds with a bowl of wonton noodles or freshly steamed dim sum in the top culinary city in Asia before traveling to Victoria Peak to marvel at the unparalleled panorama of skyscrapers lining up along a gorgeous harbor, and end the day at one of the beautifully hectic night markets.
Sydney: With it’s exquisite harbor, high energy beaches, and wild nightlife, Sydney is a must-go destination. There are always lots of music festivals happening in Sydney, and a slew of bars and nightclubs to keep you very entertained. Check out the gorgeous harbor from the Botanical Gardens, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Tower, or hug a koala at Featherdale Wildlife.
Barcelona: With great beaches, awe-inspiring architecture, wild nightlife, spectacular shopping, plethora of museums, and lots of beautiful people, it’s no surprise that Barcelona is one of the most popular destinations in Europe. Walk along Las Ramblas and watch street performers, check out Gaudi famous works of art, or party in a beach side megaclub, and with so much to do you’ll be wishing spring break was longer than a week.
