Salem, Massachussets

Home of the infamous 192 Salem witch trials, Salem should be at the top of your list for places to visit for Halloween. All throughout October Salem Haunted Happenings puts on Halloween events including festivals, balls, tours and trick-or-treating.

Don’t forget to visit the Witch House Museum and on the night of Halloween enjoy magic shows, witches balls, fireworks and more.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Although usually thought of for Mardi Gras, New Orleans is often considered on the of the best places in America to celebrate Halloween. Celebrations take place all through October and include the Krewe of Boo!’s Monster Mash Costume Party on October 19, the Voodoo, Music & Arts experience on October 25th, haunted tours through the French Quarter or one of the world-famous cemeteries and more. Of course, there’s also one massive celebration on Frenchman Street on the night of Halloween.

Orlando, Florida

Who wouldn’t love celebrating Halloween at a theme park? Orlando theme parks know how to pull all the stops for a spooky, or just plain fun, Halloween adventure. Find more open-to-everyone celebrations at Disney’s Magic Kingdom or head to Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror nights for 10 haunted houses, 5 scare zones and live entertainment – all in 80s theme.

Sleepy Hallow, New York

Consider heading to the home of the Headless Horseman for Halloween events all October. Like to get spooked during Halloween? Check out the Horseman’s Hallow. This haunted trail is listed as “NOT suitable for small children for the faint of heart.” Visit any weekend through October 2019.

Transylvania, Romania

Consider heading to Romania for Halloween 2019. Visit the spooky Bran Castle in Transylvania, where tens of thousands of people were impaled on stakes by Vlad the Impaler and which inspired the story of Dracula. The castle is open for visitors and is especially creepy to visit on the night of Halloween. You can book a guided tour or even join a Halloween tour with Romanian cuisine, medieval music, and live shows. Don’t forget to wear your costume.

Oaxaca, Mexico

Oaxaca City is considered one of the best places in the world to experience the Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) celebration. In Oaxaca you will find the town tranformed into a huge street festival. The town is decorated with skulls, skeletons and flowers and you will find local families visit the cemeteries to celebrate the day with their loved ones who have passed on.
