Although the spring semester hasn’t even started yet, that won’t stop us from starting to dream up some travel plans. Before the classes start and take up all our time, winter break is the perfect time to get planning that trip with the besties. Here’s 7 of the best spring break destinations for 2023 to help you plan your adventure.

Punta Norte beach, Cancun, México

1. Cancun, Mexico

Well established for its awesome beaches and resorts, Cancun will bring you all the fun. You can spend your warm, sunny days on the beach or enjoying tons of different water sports like parasailing, jet skiing, or snorkeling. There’s also amazing food and a vibrant nightlife scene, as well as lots of nearby historical sites (like the Mayan Pyramids). Besides all that, one of the reasons Cancun is a top spot of spring break is just how easy it is to get to! While Mexico offers a variety of beach options, Cancun’s own international airport makes getting your trip started faster, easier, and cheaper (no layovers!).

Streetcar in downtown New Orleans, Louisiana

2. New Orleans, Louisiana

While the spring break scene might not be as filled with college kids as the popular beach destinations, that doesn’t mean you should rule out NOLA. If your school’s break is on the earlier side (February) you might even be able to catch some of the Mardi Gras festivities! Fat Tuesday is February 21 this year. Even if you’ll be traveling post-Mardi Gras you’ll still find a city full of warmth, great music, and somehow even greater food. While you’re there, check out the French Quarter, eat a beignet, and catch some jazz music!

Moraine Lake in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada.

3. Alberta, Canada

For the snow, ski, snowboard enthusiasts who just want to hold onto winter for a moment longer, Alberta’s the place for you. There are so many ski resorts in the area! Think Sunshine Village, Lake Louise, Mount Norquay. You’re guaranteed a great experience whether you spend all your time hitting the slopes of one resort, or decide to hop from one to the next. After flying into Calgary, you’ll have just an hour and half’s drive to reach Banff (I mean, cmon, goalssss). Best yet, there are shuttle options both between Banff and the airport, and around the Banff area so you have the option to avoid rental cars or rideshares. If you want to do a bit more than ski on your trip, there’s also some amazing hiking spots or you can always rely on a good après ski with some good food and drink.

Aerial shot of Miami beach, Florida - considered one of the best spring break destinations for 2023.

4. Miami, Florida

Another one of those dream beach spring break destinations on the list, Miami offers sun, surf, and vibes without needing to go international. A late night city, you can lay in the sun all day and party through the night, letting all your classroom worries drift away. Miami is also the perfect place to go to for spring break because it doesn’t require a long stay to see it all. You can get your quick getaway to the warmth and you’ll have time to see Little Havana, lounge on the beach, and check out the nightlife scene before it’s time to pack it up and head back to school.

Lit up street in Nashville, Tennessee at night.

5. Nashville, Tennessee

Whether you’re into the country music scene or not, there is tons to do in Nashville. You and the besties might get some authentic hot chicken. Alternatively, check out some of the cafes. Another thing Nashville is well known for? The parks in the city are impeccable and really help you to achieve some nature vibes while still being in a city to explore. Of course if you are heading to Nashville for the music scene, many of those cafes often have live music so you might just discover the next big thing, or you can head music row, the Grand Ole Opry, or the Taylor Swift Education Center.

Sunrise or sunset at Zion National Park in Utah.

6. Southwestern road trip

Road trips with friends are the best. Plenty of convos, blasting of tunes, weird car snacks, plus the more people splitting the cost of gas (or the rental car), the cheaper it is! Tripping between the Grand Canyon, Zion, and Bryce Canyon National Parks will let you experience the warm (but not summertime hot) weather in the area. Las Vegas is the closest major airport if you’re flying in for the trip and want a big airport (i.e. cheaper flights). The three National Parks are all within 2-3 hours drive from each other (and from Vegas) making it a doable trip, easily. Plus, if you’ve got the time for more destinations Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Antelope Canyon, and the Hoover Dam are all pretty close by! Camping sites near the Grand Canyon are booked out months in advance. However, you can easily book hotels in nearby towns!

Aerial view of the Las Vegas strip in Nevada - one of the best spring break destinations for 2023.

7. Las Vegas, Nevada

Honestly, doesn’t everyone already know how great Las Vegas is? Besides how nice the weather will be during spring break time, you’ll be able to find things to do at literally all hours of the day. Whether you want to hit up the casinos, the buffets, or a concert, there should be something for everyone in your spring break travel group. Of course there are lots of people with Las Vegas residencies atm, but if you’re hoping to catch Adele before she’s done her last show of her residency is March 25.
