How to Keep Warm in the Sydney Winter

Sunglasses, sunblock, and suntans…all things you might expect in abundance when visiting New South Wales’s sizzling capital city. But if you come to Sydney in June or July, you may find the winter–although not freezing–has a different idea. But have no fear! There are plenty of ways to keep warm in New South Wales’ most lively city!

Be a Player

Housed just a few minute’s walk from Central Station is an indoor ping pong court for free use! Invite that new friend you met on Flypside and go work up a sweat perfecting your fronthand/backhand. Your hand-eye coordination will be unbeatable by the time the sun comes back out.

Find Deliverance

Good news! In Sydney there are boys on bikes from Deliveroo who will deliver delectable food right to your doorstep–which means you can stay snuggled in the comfort of your homestay while the winter rolls on outside!

Walk Through a Winter Wonderland

There are plenty of places around Sydney which embrace the cold! The annual Winter Festival next to Hyde Park holds plenty of fun for the family. Indulge in some hot chocolate after frolicking in the snow pit, or take a twirl around the ice skating rink.

Or, if you’d like to take it to the ocean, head down to the festivities at Bondi Beach. The ice skating rink in front of the Bondi Pavilion will let you glide around with a view of the sea.

Shake it Off

There’s less shivering and more shimmying at the Argyle’s weekly Wednesday salsa night. The event is free, so there’s no reason not to go and spin around the dance floor a time or two!

Get Funky
You’re lucky if you can manage to catch Play Bar’s monthly I Got Sole night. This mix of jamming regulars and open-mic hopefuls create plenty of collaborative music to bust a move to. The intimate underground venue holds in the heat, making it the perfect hideout from the winter chill.

Chow Down

What’s better for a cold day than something warm to fill your stomach? The iconic Harry’s Cafe de Wheels has been a favorite among celebrities and locals for decades–and one helping of their classic pie with mushy peas and gravy makes it easy to see why. Come around sunset and snag a seat by the harbor for a meal with a view!

Channel Your Inner Artist

You could brave the chill to see famous Sydney landmarks such as the Opera House or the Harbor Bridge, or you could head ten minutes across the Quay to the Museum of Contemporary Art instead! It’s a fun way to spend an afternoon and learn a little something new, and free entry means you can go back again the next day to see that exhibit you just can’t get out of your mind.

So what are you waiting for? Take advantage of off-season pricing and head to Sydney for an Australian winter!
