With the coronavirus pandemic bringing travel almost immediately to a halt, it’s left those of us with wandering spirits feeling a little disoriented and sad. But while the world is pressing pause, there’s still many ways that you can feed your wanderlust from the safety and comfort of your own home.

Take an adventure through YouTube

Pick a destination (or two, or three, or twenty) and spend some time watching vlogs about that destination on YouTube. Because there’s so much great video technology out there, you can get a great feel of a destination from your couch just by watching these videos.

Allow yourself to spend some time scrolling Instagram

Our go-to for travel inspiration is usually Instagram, so naturally it had to be at the top of the list. Follow some of your favorite travel brands (like us) or type in a popular travel hashtag such as #wanderlust and spend some time exploring. Not being able to get out means you can scroll guilt-free.

Catch up on your favorite, or find some new, travel blogs

There are TONS of travel bloggers out there who do a great job of sharing their experiences in different countries. Use extra time at home to catch up on your favorites or to find a few new ones to follow. Reading a travel blog often feels like making a new friend who can give you advice and inspire you. Some of our favorites include Hey Ciara and Her Adventures With Him.

Read a book

Reading a good book is one of the easiest ways to feel like you’re somewhere new. It doesn’t have to be a book about travel (although those are good too), it can also just be a story that takes place somewhere else.  Immerse yourself in a good book and let it take you to a new city or country. If you need some recommendations to get you started, try reading Eat, Pray, Love, Wild, or On the Road for a dose of wanderlust.

Visit somewhere virtually

Many popular destinations around the world are open to visitors virtually. You can live stream or take a virtual tour online. We know it’s not quite the same as being there, but there are tons of places you can explore now. Then you can decide where is a must-visit for you later.

Share stories with friends and family

Kill two birds with one stone by swapping some travel stories with friends and family.  This can help feed your wanderlust by allowing you to relive one of your favorite experiences. It can also help keep connections strong by giving you time with the people you love. (Just be sure to stay virtual if you’re not sharing a house with them!)

Start planning your next trip

One of the best ways to feed your wanderlust from home is to spend your extra time planning your next trip. Some studies have even shown that planning can be some of the most enjoyable parts of a trip. While not everyone may be as big of planners as we are, the joy really comes from spending time thinking about your adventure. Where will you go? What will you do while you’re there? What experiences might you have on your trip? Let your imagination have some fun and start planning your next trip!
