The summer is approaching fast… meaning three months of freedom, adventure, and experience outside of the classroom await. The pristine beaches, dramatic mountains, foreign lands, and crazy adventures are consistently calling your name while you sit in the classroom patiently waiting to turn those destined daydreams into a reality. Need some inspiration? Here’s 5 adventurous ideas to spark the creative travel light bulb and help you create the most epic and memorable summer yet.

1. Canyoning in Slovenia

Really canyoning anywhere would be awesome, but why not in Slovenia? Better question maybe… what is canyoning? It just consists of running down wet slabs of rock, climbing waterfalls, sliding down natural waterslides, and jumping off cliffs into crystal-clear natural water. The Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj area of Slovenia – two of the most beautiful lakes you’ll ever set your eyes upon –have a lot of canyoning around the area along with being right next to one of the most gorgeous gorges you’ll ever see, the Vintgar Gorge. It’s unreal.

2. Adventuring Around and Enjoying Music Festivals

There’s Coachella, Bonnaroo, Firefly, and Lollapalooza in the States.. and many more internationally like the Wireless Festival in the UK, Rock-a-Field Festival in Luxembourg, and Open Air St. Gallen in Switzerland just to name a few! Find where your favorite bands and artists are playing and make a road trip and adventure around it! There’s plenty of adventure to be had around the cities which offer some awesome festivals. Perhaps Interlaken in Switzerland???

3. Hiking the Appalachian Trail

The last time I was on the AT I found the first Washington monument! It exists. If you need a break from reality, want to explore, and meet random people… this is your ticket. After a few weeks, the amount of sights, friends, and stories you’ll accumulate will be boundless. You can hike it for as little as a few days or as much as the whole summer – driving around it and hiking works, too! Mountains, waterfalls, panoramic views, rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, wildlife…every adventure and unforgettable memory awaits.

4. Bike Riding through Ireland

I heard this from a friend the other day. They’re just going to rent bikes in one part of Ireland and take a trip along the coast. Did I mention the Irish coastal landscapes are breathtaking and amazing? Cliffs of Moher anyone? Maybe you can make a few pit stops at some pubs along the way as well ;).

5. Discover the Mysterious and Amazing

Lochness, the Pyramids of Giza, Stonehenge, Easter Island, Machu Picchu, Victorian Falls, Great Wall of China, Grand Canyon… the list goes on and on. There had to be something when you were a kid or even now that you’ve always wanted to see in person after you read about it or watched it on TV. It’s always better in person!

At the end of the day, the opportunities are endless and exciting as ever. So… what are you waiting for?
