Things to Do in Washington DC
Washington DC, known to most locals as “DC” or simply “The District”, is the Nation’s Capitol. History is alive in The District with it’s monuments, gardens, and memorials. Washington DC is also home to non-historical attractions as well and with it’s large number of colleges in the Downtown-there is never a shortage of fun! Washington DC is perfect for the person who likes to learn by day and have fun at night.
Washington DC is separated into four different sections: Downtown, North Central, West, and East. The National Mall, Smithsonian and other museums, the White House, Kennedy Center, George Washington University and Chinatown can all be found in the Downtown, easily accessible via the “Metro”. If music and dancing is your thing then be sure to hit up the North Central where there is always live music and clubs, the perfect combination for a wild spring break! There is also boutique shopping, tons of restaurants, nice hotels, and jazz on U Street. For all the animal lovers, the Northwest side of Washington DC is home to the National Zoo, as well as more nightlife and fine dining, the National Cathedral, most of Washington DC’s high-end shopping, and Embassy Row. History buffs should make sure to check out the East side where they can find historic landmarks like the Capitol Building, Library of Congress, and Washington DC’s “Little Vatican” around the National Shrine.
