Travel Tips for Barcelona

Barcelona International Airport is the second largest airport in Spain. So keep an eye out for travel deals and student discounts on flights.

As in other cities in Spain, pickpocketing is unfortunately a problem, especially on the Ramblas boulevard and in crowded city lanes in the old quarter. Stay attentive to your surroundings and protect your wallet.

The two official languages of Barcelona are Catalan and Spanish. In most tourist areas, many people speak English and some understand French or German.

Spring and the early summer are the best times to go before it gets too hot (weather wise). October can seem excessively rainy. But Barcelona remains a popular destination vacation and spring break destination throughout the year. That said, July and August can get very crowded, so reserve your stay in a budget hostel or hip hotel early.
