Dining in Barcelona
The culinary reputation of Barcelona, and of the whole region of Catalonia, is very strong. There is an abundance of fresh seafood thanks to the city’s proximity to the Mediterranean. Mediterranean cuisine you’ll love includes paella, a spicy fish stew with prawns, mussels, and saffron rice; grilled shellfish like parrillada de mariscos; pollo al ajillo, which is chicken grilled with garlic; and Catalan sausages like chorizo and fuet. Dessert specialities in Barcelona range from candied fruits and almonds to crema catalana custard. With this array in mind, some of central restaurants can be a bit pricy, but there are certainly affordable options. In wine bars you can order simple, classic Barcelona food (typically with olive oil, garlic, and tomato) that is reasonably priced.
