Shopping in Paris

Grand French department stores like Galleries Lafayette and the British stalwart Marks & Spencer line the boulevards near Place de l’Opera. The BHV near the wildly ornate Hotel de Ville (City Hall) in the 4th, and the Bon Marche in the 6th, are also fantastically varied department stores. Students love the bookstores near St. Michel, and even if your friends back home don’t read French, Tintin classic comics make great gifts. The enormous weekend flea market at Clignancourt sells unique vintage clotng and even housewares to spruce up your Study Abroad room. You can find bargains on French perfume in the stores on Avenue de l’Opera in the first arrondisement. The tiny lanes near Les Halles sell everything from hats to shoes to clothing by local designers.
