Volunteer and Travel in Costa Rica
Combine Meaningful Volunteering and Adventure Travel in Costa Rica
International Student Volunteers (ISV) is a USA based non-profit organization that allows you to combine incredible volunteer projects with action packed adventure travel. Since 2002, over 15,000 people have traveled with ISV and made a significant difference across 6 continents.

ISV’s Costa Rica Program
Costa Rica is located in the heart of Central America and contains an incredible diversity of exotic animals. ISV’s Costa Rican Program enables you to experience the many parts of this amazing country, from its dense rainforests to its raging rivers and active volcanoes, incredible tropical beaches and its warm, friendly communities. The national motto of Costa Rica is Pura Vida, meaning “Pure Life.” The ISV Costa Rican Program emphasizes this sentiment in every way, shape and form. You will be immersed in a culture that embraces life and a sense of community in eye-opening ways that will touch your heart and inspire your mind. You may even come away speaking a little Spanish and dancing a little salsa, too!

Volunteer Projects
As a developing nation dependent on agriculture and tourism, environmental protection and community initiatives are essential components for the sustainable development of Costa Rica. The majority of ISV’s projects are grassroots initiatives, created in direct consultation with local communities for the benefit of the local people. Many community based projects are a marriage between conservation and community development. If conservation research is your passion, you can volunteer alongside ISV’s selected private researchers and NGOs to gather scientific data on species and ecosystems. With ISV, you have a multitude of options that will enable you to make a difference in this small country! Current Volunteer Projects include:
- Monitoring and protecting endangered sea turtles on the Pacific and Caribbean coasts
- Working with local communities on sustainable farming projects
- Assisting in helping communities build much needed community facilities
- Rainforest regeneration and protection
- Monitoring, protecting and rehabilitating animals such as spider monkeys, spotted Dolphins and endangered macaws
