From Europe to Asia, the TEFL market is an increasingly diverse and exciting place to start a career. The volume of TEFL job opportunities across the globe are ever growing and the demand for qualified TEFL teachers is rising. So where is the best place to start teaching abroad? Here we’ll guide you through three of our favorites. Here is an overview of the TEFL jobs we offer.

South Korea

As one of the world’s most technologically advanced countries, the quality of life in South Korea is high. South Korean’s are also regarded as some of the friendliest and most hospitable people in the world. The demand for qualified TEFL teachers far exceeds the supply and as a result employers are willing to provide higher salaries. Typically 12 month contracts are offered, although in some cases you may be able to negotiate a minimum of 6 months. You will usually be doing about 40 hours a week, 22 hours worth of teaching and 18 hours of office work. Most schools will be willing to offer a starting salary of 1.8 million Won ($1900 USD / £950) per month, although pay could be up to 50% higher depending on qualifications. In addition, schools may cover the cost of your air fare, provide good accommodation free of charge, sort out your working visa and even provide severance pay. TEFL Jobs in Korea

The Czech Republic

So what makes the Czech Republic one of the most popular TEFL destinations in the world? The most obvious answer is that cheap beer is every TEFL teachers raison d’être! Aside from this, the Czech Republic offers fabulous architecture, a low cost of living and very friendly people. The demand for teachers is high so teachers can earn between 16,000-24,000kc per month ($750-$1100 USD / £380-£560). If you are interested in learning Czech, your employers may offer cheap language courses. They may even help you find accommodation with a local family to help you get settled in. Obviously there are opportunities in the country capital Prague, but it is recommended that those wanting an authentic experience try one of the smaller regions such as Pilsen or Brno, where you are less likely to be treated like a tourist. Mexico

Mexico is a great place to gain experience as a TEFL teacher, while taking in the unique culture, extraordinary sights and wide range of activities. Few countries offer the rich geography of Mexico, from surreal desert landscapes to snow-capped volcanoes, you’ll never be short of things to look at. You’ll also be able to soak up the country’s rich and varied history with visits to places like the Mayan pyramids. The demand for TEFL teachers in Mexico is enormous, so you’ll easily be able to find a job, whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro. Salaries seem low, starting between $350-$700 USD (£180- £350) per month, but are more than enough to provide a good quality of life, especially in Mexico. Since hiring rarely takes place via the internet or telephone, it is recommended you contact a local TEFL program or tutor to ask them to help you get in contact with good local schools.
