Sarah’s Trip to Boston!
We asked one of our great StudentUniverse.com customers about her trip to Boston. Check out what she had to say about her experience!
How would you describe Boston?
A typical New England, Puritan city. Smaller than NYC, but cleaner and less populated Boston is home to many great places to see, eat, drink and explore. My time in Boston was one of excitement and relaxation, while immersing myself in the quaint charms of this historic mecca.
What did you do in Boston?
While I was in Boston, I was visiting friends who are native Boston-ers. They had a full agenda planned out for my visit which included the campuses of Boston University and Northeastern University. These campuses were the hubs of student activity, even in the middle of the summer there were tons of students milling around preparing for fall classes, and enjoying all that the city had to offer.
I also went sailing in the harbor, departing from Rowes Wharf. Sailing in the Boston Harbor provided the best views of the city that you could ask for. I would definitely say that the view of the city skyline from the boat in the middle of the harbor was unparalleled. Rowes Wharf is a beautiful harbor that has live music, a fabulous restaurant where we had lunch right on the harbor and many cool stores and things to see. I would rate this as a must see in Boston! The huge yachts, beautiful private apartments and condos, galleries and stores make this a place for people of all ages.

I was also lucky enough to visit and have enjoyed a few brews at the Sam Adams brewery, which is a must see for all over 21 college kids. The unique atmosphere and pride behind this infamous brew really encompassed the flavors of the Boston culture.
What a must see in Boston?
While in Boston I would definitely recommend scalping some cheap tickets, which will tend to be the bleacher seats, to go see a Boston Red Sox game. This in itself is a great experience and encompasses all of what you would ever need to know, understand or ever want to experience of New England sports culture. The fans in Boston are unparalleled to any other team, or region of the world. After having some drinks at the Fenway Park neighboring bars, one can definitely come away with the experience of a lifetime and the knowledge of why the term “Red Sox nation” is an understatement for the existence of this sub culture within the world of professional sports.
Most unusual thing you saw or did?

The most unusual thing that I saw while in Boston was a few performing artists near South Station who blew my mind with their musical and dance routines. It was unusual but simultaneously special to see self expression rising from what is traditionally such a conservative puritan city.
What sucked?
The only thing that sucked was the traffic getting out of the airport. It took forever and was so confusing. Apparently Boston city has yet to post clear and efficient traffic directing signs to enter or exit the airport. It was frustrating to say the least that it took so much time getting into the arrivals gate and leaving from the departures gate. For the future, I would suggest that anyone arriving at the airport, simply hop onto the ferry that costs about two dollars and take the ferry from the airport to downtown. It will definitely lighten up the time that you would have had to spend sitting in traffic, and increase the time seeing cool city sites.

Best places to party?
The best places to party in Boston are anywhere there is a sporting event, college kids, or people drinking in general. From my experience in Boston I would recommend trying out if not one, then all of these following venues. All of the bars surrounding the neighborhood of Fenway Park will provide great entertainment, especially during game nights. Regardless of if the Red Sox are playing at home, or away I would recommend hitting up these cool spots for a real taste of Boston sports fans, and some serious drinking to boot. I would also recommend paying a visit to Boylston Street. This street is filled with bars that are very popularly frequented by students of both Boston University and Northeastern University. Also bars in Fanuel Hall will provide an awesome way to experience downtown Boston. I would particularly recommend a place on the water called Tias that has a great happy hour. It is one of the only bars in Boston that provides water front drinking at moderate prices. Definitely a must go!
