The tropical paradise that is the Bahamas is comprised of three main islands. Grand Bahama, New Providence, and Paradise Island make up this little slice of heaven on Earth. The Bahamas are a tropical escape from the everyday droll. This chain of islands survive off of tourism. That is pretty much the only form of income so they really know how to do it up right. Millions of people a year come here to lay out in the sun, relax, and have a great time. The summer is the most popular and busy season. There are so many great deals and specials, which makes it a nice time to visit. Plus the proximity to the US makes the airfare a lot more affordable then some other tropical places. Things to do in the Bahamas
When you get into the main cities there are many attractions that are not at first visible. Everyone knows to go to the beaches, and they are truly beautiful and tropical. There are also many more things to do in the Bahamas. National Parks, Botanical Gardens, and cultural sites can fill up a few days. Bahamas Historical Society Museum is a nice place to visit. Although not totally necessary if you are short on time. The Botanical Gardens is Nassau are absolutely beautiful. If you love looking at floral works of art this is your place. Besides the water sports, which are plentiful, there are a lot of great land sports. Ever imagine horseback riding along the beach? At sunset? Well you can do that here. Four-wheeling is another fun sport that is loved in the Bahamas. The sand is the perfect texture to make this a fun and exciting sport. Hiking and nature walks are a good way to see the sites while getting in some exercises. Then of course there are the water sports that make the Bahamas so famous. Most resorts, as mentioned under the places to go section, will set up day excursions. So make sure to check to make your trip even more fun.
Places to go in the Bahamas
While Andros is the largest island in the group, Grand Bahama is one of the most active and second largest. The main city is Freeport. Many flights land either here or in Nassau, on New Providence. The history of the Bahamas is here. Once Christopher Columbus landed in Freeport and there are plenty of reminents from that time still here. There are many cultural and historical sites. Museums and galleries can be found here. And there is a lot of fun water sports as well. Nassau and Paradise Island is where the parties at. Take a short ferry from one to the other. On Paradise Island go to the beach. The options are limitless. You can rent a boat, go diving, water snorkeling, fishing, and a bunch of great water sports. A lot of the hotels and resorts that are right on the water offer trips and excursions that they will set up for and provide transportation for. Paradise Island has some great nightlife including clubs and casinos. All over the islands there are lots of great shopping opportunities. The restaurants stay open late and many turn into bars and dancing spots later on.
