San Antonio
San Antonio is one of the most well known cities in Texas, and for that matter, the country. The population of the city is around 1.3 million, but it still maintains a small town feel. The culture and the people of the city are very spirited and welcoming to all. The city has a great number of activities including museums, historical sights, amusement parks, and great food. The city also has a strong Mexican heritage and the Hispanic atmosphere makes the city very unique. Student travelers will enjoy how Mexican culture and history has been infused with this great American city.

Things to do in San Antonio
San Antonio offers something for everyone who visits. On top of student travelers’ lists should be a trip to The Alamo, the site of the Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. In addition to many other historical favorites, visitors can also check out many museums including the San Antonio Museum of Art or the Witte Museum, a place displaying many exhibits including dinosaurs, textiles, and natural history. If you are looking for thrills San Antonio has it covered. There are two amusement parks in the area. Seaworld (Home of the World famous whale Shamu) and Six Flags.
Nightlife in San Antonio
There is plenty of nightlife in San Antonio. The Falls is a great place to go. It is an upscale and exciting place featuring three different venues. For a more laid back experience check out Soho, a casual New York City style bar featuring big screen TV’s, pool tables, and an awesome atmosphere. Make sure you also check out the many other bars and clubs that are found in the city, particularly on the River Walk.
Dining in San Antonio
San Antonio’s Mexican influence has most certainly found its way into the cuisine found throughout the city. There are numerous tex-mex restaurants found at any street in the city. For cheap, tasty tex-mex go to Teka Molina this famous restaurant is located on San Pedro. Locals love the famous puffy tacos, carne guisada, guacamole cups, bean rolls, and home-made tortillas. There are also many other dining options for students on a budget including a cheap Italian restaurant named Main Street Pizza. For those looking to spend a bit more and are looking for something different try Sushi Zushi, some of the best sushi in the city.
Shopping in San Antonio
San Antonio has plenty of shopping for the student looking to spend some money. With 10 major shopping malls within an hour drive of downtown, you can’t go wrong. Within the city there is also great shopping. The Rivercenter Mall is a great place to shop and is located within walking distance of the Alamo.There is also great shopping at The Shops at La Cantera. This location offers open marketplace shopping and is a great place to spend the afternoon.
San Antonio Travel Tips
- Be prepared for very warm temperatures starting as early as April and lasting until October.
- The city has a very thorough bus system that should be utilized to access the best of what San Antonio has to offer.
- In general, tourists find that the Alamo is much smaller (though still impressive) than expected and therefore, don’t plan on spending an extended period of time visiting.
