Sacramento
Sacramento gained instant popularity back in the mid 1800’s when gold was found along the banks of the rivers. Now a days there are a lot of great places to visit and experience. Unlike other metropolitan cities in California, Sacramento retains its’ more relaxed traditional role. People here are easy going and very warm and friendly.

Things to do in Sacramento
Old Sacramento, the oldest thriving pioneer town still exists and part of the buildings have been preserved and restored from the late 1800’s. There are several museums and galleries as well as souvenir shops and horse-drawn stage coach rides along the boardwalk. The best part of this section of the city is that it is a very close walk to the Amtrack Station. California State Railroad Museum has several well preserved rail road trains and their equipment. The California State Capitol is open everyday during the week and offers tours. Sutter’s Fort is a great escape back into the past. This California State Park has many activities that depict life in the 1800’s in California.
Nightlife in Sacramento
There is lots to do in Sacramento. A good suggestion is the Sacramento Wine and Nightlife Tours. This company gives tasty tours of various wineries (over 200), tours of the vineyards, and taste tests. Bars and pubs are the most crowded in the downtown area, but there are a few nightclubs in the city as well.
Dining in Sacramento
Sacramento has much to offer to hungry travelers. The most popular types of food are south-western, Mediterranean, and lots of seafood. But there is of course something for everyone here to enjoy. Around the Old Sacramento area you can find some “old style” authentic pioneer restaurants.
Shopping in Sacramento
The Arden Fair Mall is the largest metropolitan mall in Sacramento with hundreds of stores. Old Sacramento has several local shops and carts selling products and souvenirs.

- Downtown has a lot of one way streets, which can be confusing with out a map.
- Stay in pairs or groups when traveling along bike paths at night.
- Walking around or taxis are the easiest way to get around the city.
