Known as the “biggest little city in the world”, Reno is the second-largest gaming destination in Nevada, a site to see if Las Vegas feels a little too overwhelming for you. With the Sierra Nevada mountain range along the edges of the city, this gorgeous place is home to several hotel-casinos, with the population in the pursuit of wealth, and happiness. Not only are there many sites to see in Reno, but it has been voted “the Friendliest Town in Nevada,” so the people aren’t too bad either. Feel the warm welcome of the locals and experience the urban center for Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe, and Pyramid Lake.

Things to do in Reno

A very popular tourist attraction, the activities taking place year-round in Reno are bound to keep you entertained! Of course, the main attractions of Reno are its fabulous gambling casinos, complete with many dining and entertainment options for you to choose from. Some of the more well-known casinos include: Silver Legacy, Eldorado, Circus Circus, and Reno Nugget. If you are taking a winter trip to Reno, check out the world-class ski areas, including Squaw Valley, Mt. Rose, and Diamond Peak. If you are more of a thrill seeker, Reno is fantastic for mountain biking in areas like Lake Tahoe, or kayaking at Wingfield Park. Also, be sure to check out the Nevada Museum of Art, Idlewild Park, and Wingfield Park.

Nightlife in Reno

The life of Reno really starts to emerge as the sun goes down and people come out for the night. As you can imagine, the casinos around town are going to be the most populated and entertaining places to visit at night. Some of the best local places to grab a drink or two include the Reno Jazz Club, Zephyr Lounge, Flowing Tide Pub, and Sierra Tap House. If you are looking for more upbeat clubs and places to dance, you should check out BuBinga Nightclub, The Cube Bar, or the Bahia Nightclub for a good time. Reno’s nightlife is truly unique and you are guaranteed a fun time.

Dining in Reno

Besides all the gambling and partying going down in Reno, they have great places to eat and enjoy a fine meal. Jim Kelly’s Nugget Diner is one of the most famous places to go, because it is always open 24-7 and is the home of the “Awful Awful,” ironically one of the best burgers you will ever taste. Going along with a more fast-food type of cheap dining, Blue Moon Pizza, Pirate’s Pizza, and Pneumatic Diner are some of the more popular locations. On more of a classy note, the Silver Peak Brewery and the Ristorante Placido will certainly satisfy. For the “best breakfast in Reno,” head over to the Island Buffet to start off your day in a delicious way.

Shopping in Reno

Even though when you think of Reno, shopping probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind, it is becoming more and more popular among tourists. Old shopping centers are all being renovated, while new centers are popping up all over the city. Some of the more popular locations include Wells Avenue, California Avenue, and downtown Reno. South of downtown Reno, The Summit is a new upscale outdoor shopping complex where you can find many of your favorite stores, from Banana Republic to Williams-Sonoma.

Reno Travel Tips

  • Definitely rent a car when traveling to Reno, because with all of the best attractions within a 30-60 minutes away, it’ll be easiest to get around, and do all that you want to!
  • If traveling in the winter, ski resorts are the best entertainment. Otherwise, the casinos and attractions are best experienced in the spring and summer months.
