Things to do in Jacksonville
As a warm weather city, there is plenty to do in Jacksonville. Events including the Jacksonville Jazz Festival and the Jacksonville Sea and Sky Spectacular (air show) among others can be enjoyed throughout the year. During the fall and winter months, be sure to check out a Jacksonville Jaguars Football game. The surrounding area is also known for its spectacular golfing. The Player’s Championship is held in Ponte Vedra each spring. And of course the beaches are a must when visiting. The beach culture is a large part of Jacksonville and its beaches are much less crowded than those located further south in areas such as Miami.
Nightlife in Jacksonville
There is plenty of nightlife in Jacksonville. Student travelers should definitely check out Lynch’s Irish Pub. The bar features a large selection of imported beers, live music, and a raucous atmosphere. Another hot spot is Pete’s Bar, a staple at the beaches. This bar, one of the oldest in the city is great for those traveling on a budget. The beer is cheap and the atmosphere is awesome.
Dining in Jacksonville
As a coastal city, Jacksonville offers many restaurants that serve seafood dishes. One of the local favorites for seafood is Clark’s Fish Camp, serving up seafood classics as well as great ribs. Caribbean and Cuban inspired food is also found throughout the city. Havana-Jax Cafe is top notch in terms of classic Cuban dishes. For those looking for cheap burgers or pizza, a small chain by the name of The Pizza Loop Grill serves up all the classics and has several locations throughout the Jacksonville area.
Shopping in Jacksonville
The must stop place for shopping is The Landing. This downtown shopping district is located on the river and is surrounded by exciting nightlife, particularly around New Years. St. John’s Town Center, an open air mall, is also a popular spot with numerous shopping and dining options. Finally, The Shoppes on Avondale feature a variety of specialty shops, boutiques, and galleries to satisfy just about every taste.

- Jacksonville has become an increasingly popular spot for spring break so be sure to shop around for the cheapest airfare in advance.
- For much of the year, Jacksonville is hot and humid so remember to stay cool and drink plenty of water.
- Jacksonville is generally an easier city to explore by driving, since many attractions are spread out, so try to rent a car for your visit if possible.
