Fresno may be hot in the summer, but this town has some undiscovered gems that just might surprise you. Forestiere Underground Gardens, on West Shaw Ave., have some great, complex underground gardens that are nearly 100 years old. Walk-throughs and tours are given daily, though you should call ahead for reservations. Ready to cool off? Island Water Park has great water slides and tubing runs ready to take the edge of that summer sun. It’s open from June to September. Also be sure to come just in time for the Rogue Festival, a Canadian and North American Fringe Festival that features both local and national artists. Dance, music, comedy, film, art, and theater venues are located all throughout the Tower District. Don’t miss Shakespeare in the park, where they are performing both “Othello” and “The Taming of the Shrew” all throughout the summer.
