Fargo
Fargo is a small city of 90,000 located in the southeast corner of North Dakota. Despite its small size, the city is full of life and is a great place to visit while in the area. Museums, great food, and shopping are just some of the reasons why Fargo is a fun place to explore. So don’t judge a book by its cover and take your time enjoying one of North Dakota’s finest cities.

Things to do in Fargo
There are many museums throughout Fargo. Of particular interest is the Roger Maris Museum as well as the Fargo Air Museum. Both are open year round. Another attraction is the Red River Zoo which is open from May to October. Other interesting landmarks are KVLY-TV mast and the KXJB-TV mast, the tallest towers on earth. Make sure to check out the Celebrity Walk of Fame, stars such as Garth Brooks, Neil Diamond, and KISS have left their signatures, handprints and footprints in the cement. If visiting during the summer, check out Fargo Thunder Road for some go-kart racing, batting cages, and adventure golf.
Nightlife in Fargo
Ready for a drink? Stop by Dempsey’s Public House, a traditional Irish pub. You can also head upstairs to The Aquarium for some live music of all styles. Also, check out the bar at Hotel Donaldson aptly named HoDo. This bar features very tasty pub food and tapas style dishes. They also have great beer on tap. You can also venture outside of the city and find places of interest in the fast growing suburbs of the area.
Dining in Fargo
Fargo has many dining options. For cheap eats stop by Ristreto Coffe & Tea for coffee, tea, frappes, gelato, and pastries. Another hot spot is Grand Junction, a local favorite. They serve up hot subs grilled right in front of you. For more high end dining you can head across the river to Moorhead and visit Sarello’s. They have a first class menu, excellent wine, and great service. Monte’s Downtown, a modern, upscale restaurant is also a great choice for a nice dinner.
Shopping in Fargo
Shopping in Fargo only means one thing, the million square feet of West Acres. This shopping center features great stores such as Sears, Macy’s, JC Penney, and nearly 100 others. It is also worthwhile to checkout downtown Fargo. It is here where you will find great boutique stores and specialty shops. It is an interesting way to spend the afternoon and pick up great gifts for friends.
Fargo Travel Tips
- Fargo is very cold in the winter, so be prepared!
- The Fargo bus system is very effective and is a great way for student travelers to get around the city, there is also a lot of available parking.
- Fargo also has a twin city named Moorhead. Although smaller than Fargo, it is definitely worthwhile to check out while visiting.
