Things to do in Cedar Rapids
Keep in mind that Cedar Rapids is still a developing city, but it has tons of natural beauty. Sometimes the best thing to do is hit up one of their state parks and take some time boating, hiking, picnicking, and just relaxing. The Downtown District is really cool, with a lot of unique shops to browse through. There’s also the Cedar Rapids History Center, a cool place to learn about the Midwest and Iowa. Be sure to hit up the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, up on Third Ave. This hidden gem features collections of works by Iowa natives Grant Wood and Marvin cone, along with others, and a collection of 21 Roman portrait busts. Make a day of museums by going to the Science Station on First St. Fun and science come together in this interactive science museum, with an IMAX theater attached to it. Lastly, make sure you check out the Cedar Rapids Theater and Cedar Rapids Symphony, both with great performances weekly.
Nightlife in Cedar Rapids
You won’t find crazy college parties or wild spring break raves in Cedar Rapids. Instead, this city’s nightlife is a little more sophisticated, with most of the residents sitting down for a drink and some music. The Piano Lounge, on 2nd Ave, serves up a huge selection of great martinis and also features great live music. Check it out on Thursday night when all martinis are half-price.
Dining in Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids has an array of different types of food, depending on your tastes. The Blend is a chic, upscale place with a great gourmet menu changing monthly. If you’re looking for a quick bite head over to the Flying Wienie, a small place that serves hot dogs, homemade Polish sausage, Gyros, and other short order food. For more of a small town Iowa atmosphere, try the Starlite Room. This local favorite is a great place to get the Iowa experience while chomping down on their famous 1/2 lb Superburger.

Shopping in Cedar Rapids is pretty sparse, with little shops and grocery stores scattered all throughout the city. Take a walk and explore what the city has to offer!
