Boston, the largest and capital city of the state of Massachusetts, has a great reputation as an academic and tourist town. Boston upholds a strong reputation as America’s college city with hundreds of colleges in universities in and around Boston. You can get student discount fares on Boston flights to visit this city and feel its charm. Want to see the unique weather forecast on its old and tallest John Hancock Building? Well you can–the building’s roof displays each day’s impending forecast: steady blue means clear view; flashing blue, clouds are due; steady red, rain ahead; flashing red, snow instead. You can’t miss the Back bay area with its prominent landmarks, or Government Center, the South Boston waterfront, Copley Square and Prudential Center, just to name a few. You can also relax on the Boston Common, its oldest public park, or stroll in the Emerald necklace, the string of parks encircling the city. Because Boston has a climate between humid continental and humid subtropical, you get to enjoy warm and humid summer weather (18-28 C), warm spring temperatures of 40-70 F and cold, yet cold and snowy winters. Grab a student flight deal to visit this vibrant city and experience culture, history and art in its ornate theaters, parks, and museums.

Things to do in Boston

Boston is one of the great American travel sites. Mingle with tourists walking from the Back Bay area to the Prudential Center, Copley Square, and Hynes Convention Center. Step into Beacon Hill with its gas-lit streetlights and original bricks. Check out the hub of activities in Faneuil Hall, the Freedom Trail, and the Boston Public Garden and Exhibition Center. Want to have an unforgettable 4th of July? See the Boston Pops Concert at the Hatch Shell, and watch the impressive fireworks display. In October, have fun watching the Head of the Charles Regatta, where 8000 rowers compete on the Charles River. First Night in January is the oldest New Year’s Eve party in America. Love plants? Visit the Arnold Arboterum. You can also join community boating or visit historic Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.

Nightlife in Boston

Your discounted student airfare should let you have a great night out in Boston, reputed to be a ‘drinking’ town with a busy nightlife. Check out the best spots – Boston Irish Pubs with neon shamrocks on the windows, located mostly downtown along the Freedom Trail. Many bars can be found on Canal Street, Boylston Street and Downtown Crossing, and throughout Faneuil Hall, Central Square and Harvard Square in Cambridge, just to name a few. You can easily find nightspots where other college students flock–mostly anywhere you go, you’ll be surrounded by other students looking to have a good time.

Dining in Boston

Boston is not only great for college student trips, it’s also renowned for excellent New England seafood and local specialties such as baked beans, cod, and clam chowder. You have to love the popular Boston ice cream. Check out genuine Italian food and pastries in the North End, as well as some great sushi joints in Kenmore Square (near Fenway Park) and through Coolidge Corner (in Brookline). Chinatown has some great hole-in-the-wall eateries with outstanding prices, though the area is a bit dicey. And make sure you stop into Cheers, the original bar from the show–it’s located just across the street from the Public Garden. Boston has just about every type of cuisine you could imagine, from a lot of delicious but cheap eateries to and more upscale, truly superb restaurants.

Shopping in Boston

Want to enjoy some shopping in Boston? Grab cheap travel deals so you can splurge without guilt! You can find the biggest shopping areas in Back Bay and Downtown Crossing. The Cambridgeside Galleria, Copley Place and Prudential Center have the largest malls–Copley has all high-end, expensive designer stores, while the Prudential offers some more affordable options, while the Cambridgeside Galleria has all sorts of options. Newbury Street is perhaps one of the most popular walking and shopping destinations in all of Boston, and an experience not to be missed. Harvard Square and Coolidge Corner have some good shops as well, and Wrentham Village is a must-see for fine fashion and jewelry.
