Things to do in Venice
Venice is usually busy in the flourishing months of spring, and tourists flock to the city during this time, but the absence of cars will make your visit a particularly pleasant experience regardless of when you go. The main attractions in Venice include architectural buildings, museums, art galleries, historic sites, and the numerous canals, especially the Grand Canal. You can ride a vaporetto (water bus) if you want the best yet cheapest way to get around. You can also try rowing, or take a traghetto ride across the Grand Canal.
Nightlife in Venice
There is a lot to do in Venice when it comes to nightlife, and if you want to party, even on a tight budget, the best party atmosphere is found in Campo Santa Margherita or in Erbaria (West side of the Rialto Bridge). In these places, cheap bars and nightclubs are plentiful. You might also want to visit one of the world’s most famous restaurants, Harry’s Bar, though it’s a bit on the pricier side. If you’re looking for a more romantic evening, a walk along the narrow streets of Venice would be the best option.
Dining in Venice
The Venetian cuisine is full of tasty traditional dishes. Venice being a city on a lagoon, expectedly, has traditional dishes that are mostly with fish. Venetian cuisine has also a lot to offer in terms of pasta dishes, which include spaghetti with clams and spaghetti with cuttlefish ink. Dining around St. Mark’s Square is a little expensive, so it’s not the best place to eat if you are on a tight budget. You can also satisfy your appetite by trying their cicchetti (Italian version of tapas).
Shopping in Venice
Venice isn’t particularly focused on shopping, but it still it owns some of Italy’s most interesting gifts. Venice is known for some local crafts that have been produced there for centuries and are rarely available elsewhere, like the delicate lace from Burano and the papier-mâché Carnevale masks. In Venice, a city that for centuries prospered mainly because of tourism, it’s hard to find many bargains, but along the Rialto Bridge, you can still find a lot of cheaper tourist nick-nacks.
