The first thing you’ll notice is Manchester’s old buildings. If you’re into history then head over to the Trafford area where you can take a 90 minute MP3 walking tour. For movies Manchester has a few big multi-screen cinemas located centrally in the city. For the typical Hollywood movies try the AMC off Deansgate or Odeon in the Printworks. Tickets can be as cheap as $4.75 for students- bring your ID! For the indie movie goer hit up The Cornerhouse on Oxford Road, it usually shoes independent and foreign language films. Also, there’s an IMAX inside The Odeon. Manchester also has many different festivals that are sure to be great. These include the Manchester International Film Festival, Manchester International Festival, Manchester Comedy Festival, MAPS Music Art Poetry &Stuff, Manchester Irish Festival, Gay pride, Manchester Jazz Festival, and Sounds from the Other City.
Nightlife in Manchester
Manchester has a wide range of bars and clubs from indie and small to posh and chic. If you’re looking for a more expensive club with great service and a fantastic view then hit up The Hilton in Deansgate. It can have a big line on weekends so try going during the week. For the music lovers out there choose the University of Manchester’s Student’s Union on Oxford Road. You can find a party almost every night ranging from local bands to international acts. Looking for a dance party? Head over to Deansgate Locks in Peter’s Fields. It can be pricey but well worth it. If traditional is more your style then Salisbury is your best bet located on Oxford Road.
Dining in Manchester
Where to eat in Manchester depends on what part of the city you’re in. For great Chinese just stroll over to Chinatown where many all-you-can-eat buffets can be found. For those on a budget the best places to go are kebab and pizza shops on Oxford Road. Curry can also be great and carry a small price tag. Have a taste for Greek?
