Things to do in Tokyo
Among the vast array of sights, the very first tourist attractions most travelers visit in Tokyo are the temples of Asuka and the Meiji Shrine. Other best places to visit are the gardens of the Imperial Palace, located in Chiyoda. You will also never run out of things to do in Tokyo. You can try soaking in some local “sento” or public baths, take a stroll through the Imperial Palace’s East Gardens, or have a picnic in a park during the Sakura (cherry blossom, which only lasts for about a week).
Nightlife in Tokyo
One of Tokyo’s most famous nightlife sections is Roponggi, where bars, clubs, and discos that specialize in serving foreigners are open until 4-5am. But if you want to start your night earlier, you can visit Shibuya first where, like Roponggi, there are available English pubs with reasonable prices. You can also go to Japan’s largest red-light district, Kabuchiko, found in Shinjuku (which is also home to a massive gay bar district). Happy hours throughout Tokyo usually happen between 5-7pm during weekends and up to 9:30pm during the week.
Dining in Tokyo
Tokyo has an amazing variety of food, which includes cold food and food to go, typically just found in the basements of department stores. Of course, it is known to most people that Japan is the origin of the world famous “sushi” or Nigirizushi (fish pressed onto rice). If you are on a tight budget, you should not worry because although Tokyo is known for its high cost of living, it still offers a wide range of cheap dining opportunities.
Shopping in Tokyo
It is said that you can probably buy in Tokyo anything that you can buy anywhere else in the world. There are available giant supermarkets, which are usually open until 10pm, and there are also a number of convenient store that are open 24 hours. If you are an anime (animation) and mangga (comics) fan, it is recommended that you buy it in Akihabara, which is also considered as Tokyo’s Electric Town, and if you want to buy cameras, you can go to the numerous camera stores in Shinjuku. Shibuya is a high end fashion area with young people walking around styling the latest trends.
