Things to do in Shanghai

Things to do in Shanghai
Since there is so much to do in Shanghai, where to go depends mainly upon your particular interests. If you are interested in seeing loads of classic Chinese architecture, it is a must that you visit the Yuyuan Gardens. You can also go to the top of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower (standing at 468 meters tall, this is Asia’s tallest TV tower) in order to get a better view of Shanghai. If you want to see the giant Panda and other exotic animals, you can make a trip to the Shanghai Zoo.

Nightlife in Shanghai

Shanghai Nightlife
The after-hours capital of China, Shanghai is filled with a frenetic nightlife scene. One of the famous nightlife sections in Shanghai is Xin Tian Di, a small pedestrianized area of the city that features numerous bars and cafes. Although bar prices are surprisingly hefty, there are still a number of bars that offer happy hours and drink-all-you-can deals. Shanghai bars usually feature live bands playing a wide variety of music. For some good people watching, check out The Huangpu Park and the Bund.

Dining in Shanghai

Shanghai Dining
Although it is one of the lesser-known types of Chinese cuisine, Shanghainese cuisine still has a special, appealing blend, which is generally characterized as sweet and oily – it is divided into two categories, the Benbang cuisine (local cuisine) and the Haipai cuisine (an all-embracing cuisine). If you are vegetarian, then you should be sure to stop by Vegetarian Life Style, where affordable and organic vegetarian food is available. If you’re traveling on a tight student budget, you may also want to try Wujiang road.

Shopping in Shanghai

Shanghai Shopping
In China, Shanghai is the most popular place to go when it comes to shopping. In fact, it is hailed as the “Shopping Paradise” or the “Oriental Paris.” On Nanjing road, China’s number one commercial street, there are clusters of more locally-oriented shops. If you’re looking for more mainstream, high-end designer brands from around the world, head to Huaihai road. Here you will find the Parkson Shopping Center, which is also worth a visit. If you’re in the market for more inexpensive merchandise, the North Sichuan road would be the best place to go.
