Things to do in Cape Town
Anything you could ever think of doing is possible in Cape Town. One thing you must do is take a cable car to the top of Table Mountain, which is so high that the weather conditions at the top and bottom are not the same. Head to Cape Peninsula at the Cape of Good Hope to immerse yourself in the gorgeous landscape. The beaches in Cape Town are amazing for swimming, surfing, and relaxing. Take a tour of the Constantia Valley wine estates and go on a mini wine tasting tour. Several events take place every year in Cape Town, from the Jazz Festival, to carnivals, concerts, and shows. There are also several hiking trails, helicopter tours, kayaking clubs, scuba diving places, and sunset cruises.
Nightlife in Cape Town
The most famous place in Cape Town is Long Street, which is a multi-ethnic nightspot where you can see new South Africa at its best without being flooded by tourists. Many bars and hotspots will have live entertainment from jazz to kwaito music. Some of these include the Blushlounge, The Nose Wine Bar, and The Green Dolphin. The Observatory, or better known as Obz, is home to several students, giving this section of the city very vibrant bars, pubs, and clubs. Camps Bay is also a great spot for nightlife in general. This is a city that never sleeps and you will stay up all night partying in Cape Town for sure!
Dining in Cape Town
The cuisine you will find in Cape Town will astound you with its high quality and deliciousness. Local wines are particularly excellent because of the high fruit productions in this region. The Karoo lamb is very popular dish and something to try when traveling to Cape Town. In terms of seafood, the oysters and local linefish are great eats. The V&A waterfront is a very popular tourist restaurant area, but these tend to be very crowded and expensive. Dine with supermodels and celebrities in Camps Bay, with perfect restaurants overlooking the ocean. Make sure you take a trip to the Cape Winelands for a variety of foods, with restaurants such as The River Cafe, La Columber, and the Constantia Utisig Restaurant.
Shopping in Cape Town
The prime tourist spot for souvenirs in Cape Town is the V&A waterfront, although these can sometimes be overpriced and not necessarily authentic. To find the true souvenirs, head to the Green Point market on Sundays, which is walking distance from the V&A. If you are a fan of South African wine, it is better to buy it here than overseas because is much cheaper and more abundant here. Contemporary South African art has become very popular in the art world, with beads, wire work, glass, and embroidery. Along with any other major city in the world, you will find large shopping malls. Cape Town has a number of them, from the Longbeach Mall to Bayside Centre.
