Freshman Essentials
Aside from the obvious (you, your clothes, your books, relative sanity with three dashes of excitement and nerves) here are some Freshman Essentials I’ve compiled from experience.
A word of advice: Be sure to check out StudentUniverse Deals, you can save hundreds!
Amazon Student Prime
Sign up for a free trial with your student email address. You’ll get free, fast shipping, access to free TV episode downloads (goodbye Netflix fee), and you can save a trip to an overpriced box store for those things you forgot.
The Dorm Room Basics
Hangers, plastic clothes organizer, shoe rack, laundry bin, detergent (and skills), a water bottle, a lanyard (you’ll want your college ID and keys on a conspicuous chain), and maybe a mattress pad if you anticipate a little withdraw from your feather bed.
Photos
Because sometimes you don’t want to be on Facebook for 3 hours. Printing out a bunch of your faves and sticking them above your desk or bed can brighten up your space and provides a comforting feel.
Happy & Healthy First Year
A big box of Emergen-C, a multivitamin for students, and a big roll of stamps can go a long way in keeping you happy. Sending some postcards from your new college and college town will thrill your friends and family, and may even yield some cool replies you can pair with your photos.
Comfy Clothes
Your favorite “ugly” sweater, high school sweatpants, embarrassing slippers, and some worn in old T shirts. They might seem “uncool” while you’re packing, but trust me, as soon as you’re having fun and making real friends, you’ll be wishing you had them!
