4 Benefits of Remote Internships
If I could give one piece of advice to incoming college freshmen, I would tell them to get as many internships as they can. Any of my friends can tell you that I’ve really taken this philosophy to an extreme. If you take on a remote internship, you can just treat it as another class. It is the best way to gain experience without having to travel to an office multiple times a week. At the moment, I have two remote internships (StudentUniverse included!)
1. Easy way to boost your resume
If you are a freshman, then you might think that this doesn’t apply to you. When you go to get your first real internship, you will already have substantial work on your resume! Also, it is possible for students to juggle multiple remote internships—depending on the amount of work you have, there is always an option for more internship experience.
2. Figuring out your options
The earlier you get started with developing skills and knowledge in different fields, the easier it will be to decide your major/minors down the road.
3. Leveraging your network
By starting to meet people in your greater network when you’re young, the more people you will be in contact with by your senior year. You can measure your network by LinkedIn because you can connect with people when you meet them and also connect in the future.
4. No travel time
You can do your remote internship work… anywhere! Depending where the company is located, you might be required to meet weekly or monthly for a quick meeting about what you have been accomplishing—this might even be a phone call!
I urge you to take this advice and find a remote internship! Twitter is a great place to find one, as companies and employees are always tweeting about new opportunities.
Just remember, the work you do now will only benefit you in the future.
