One thing I absolutely love is the deliciously non-linear path that takes people from childhood to their vocation(s) as adults. It’s rarely as simple as we think, and I find shedding light on reroutes or hardships people I admire have endured humanizes them in a beautiful way and also creates a guiding light for younger generations. Not everyone who you see as “successful” in your life today had a perfect 4.0 as an undergrad or always knew they wanted a master’s in that particular discipline. Read on for some exciting people who have overcome everything from nearly failing out of high school, a concussion during undergrad, and be amazed by how raw foods helped a 23 year old gain her Master’s from M.I.T., and a classics B.A. become the admissions director of School Year Abroad. What constitutes a “sexy” college? Sexy points are given based on the following criteria:
- Availability of Sexual Health Resources
- Demonstration of progressive sexual politics
- Safety
- Empowered students. This means taking control and responsibility over their own decisions, whether that means frequent sex discussion groups or provocative blogging. The point is, their is an open dialogue about sex. Sex itself isn’t inherently sexy, empowerment and responsibility are what make sex positive!
